The territory of the created national park is located in the eastern part of the East European Plain. Most of the territory is covered with forests; a much smaller area is occupied by meadows, swamps and woodlands.This is a unique area with a high natural level of biological diversity of species, ecosystems and landscapes.Due to its inaccessibility, this is one of the least disturbed forest areas in the European north of Russia, practically unaffected by economic activity.

Koygorodsky National Park has an area of ​​56.7 thousand hectares. It became the third federal specially protected natural area in Komi. Previously, only Yugyd Va and the Pechora-Ilychsky Reserve had this status. The national park is located in the south of Komi, in the territories of the Koygorodsky and Priluzsky districts, bordering the Kirov Nurgush Nature Reserve.

The forests of the national park are the largest tract of virgin southern taiga forests in Europe unaffected by human activity. Experts call this territory a national and even international value.

One of the key features of the location of the national park is its direct adjacency to the borders of the Nurgush nature reserve, which allows preserving most of the valuable intact forest area.
